Little hot-air balloon, painted eyes, eternal smile, what are you doing up there?

I once heard a sweet voice, down on the ground. Fragile and white, a paper princess who told me she was mine. And she wanted to go, she wanted to see, she wanted to get out of her crystal cage. So I told her to come, and we flew up to the sun. And she saw all the mountains, she saw all the seas, she touched the stars and rode on the wind along with me. I got used to hear her laugh, and I knew so well that gleam in her eyes.

Little hot-air balloon, painted eyes, eternal smile, what are you doing up there?

She once asked me to wait, she said she would look for a friend. And we came back to the ground, and she left, and she came back with him. Shiny and silvery, a tin knight who told her he was hers. So I told them to come, and we flew up to the sun. And we saw again the same mountains, the same seas, the same stars and the same winds. The knight fought monsters, the princess just dreamed and I flew up, up, up, ‘till there was only blue to see. The princess didn’t laugh, the gleam in her eyes was another gleam. And she looked at the knight, oh, how she looked at the knight!

Little hot-air balloon, painted eyes, eternal smile, what are you doing up there?

They once asked me to wait, they said they would look for a horse. And we came back to the ground, and they left… and they left… And I wondered what the use of a horse inside a hot-air balloon was… And they left… And I heard bells ringing… And they left… And a boy found me and hanged me from a tree so they wouldn’t step on me, and I just stayed there… And they left…

Little hot-air balloon, painted eyes, eternal smile, what are you doing up there?

I’m waiting. Years have passed, and I’m waiting. Waiting for my princess, her knight and his horse to come. I’ll show them all the wonders, all the beauties, all the monsters for the knight to slay. I’m waiting for my princess, her eyes so blue and her hair so blonde. I want to lead her to the adventure. To the adventure, and beyond.

News, people!
I'm taking part in the contest Awareness of the Arts: Journey. My partner (it's a contest in pairs) is the beautiful Lunnika-Horo (go check her deviations, she's amazing). Her submission for the contest is To the Adventure (yes, they must have the same title).

So for the contest the rules were simple: taking "Journey" as the main plot theme, two buddies (a writer and an artist) would create their entries after consulting with one another on who would create the first deviation. Then the second participant would create their deviation as an interpretation of the first deviation.
I signed up as a writer five days before the deadline, and soon I received a note from
Lunnika-Horo saying that she was an artist (a photographer) and that she would like to be my buddy. She sent me a picture she had taken recently and told me she would like to participate with it.
So I sat down and inmediately the idea came to my head as I looked at the picture. A tiny hot air balloon. That would make a nice fairy tale. Something a little sad but lovely. I liked the idea of a paper princess too, and then everything came out in a split second.

I don't know if this is good, I don't know if you cried or laughed or just looked at the page bored to death. What I just know is that this is one of the few, very few writings I did that made me, and still make me, feel complete. Like there's nothing missing. I'm satisfied by its beggining, its middle and its ending. I wouldn't change a word and I would read it forever. And I would show it to my boyfriend (I only show him my best xDDD). I also don't know either if I'm going to win (I don't think so, there are so many amazing submissions for this contest!), but I know I did my best. That should do (trust me, I've written some pieces of rubbish for contests that you wouldn't believe).

So wish me and my partner luck! We're going to rock it(?
Kisses!
